Ayurveda is a 5000 year old traditional Indian medicine which today has its own universities and hospitals. It is called the mother of all healing because it cares for all creatures as a mother does for her children.

It teaches about the diet, medicines and behaviours that are beneficial or harmful for life and consciousness.

It is a way of life that teaches us how to maintain a good health and improve both our energy – and awareness levels so that we can define our goals in life – achieving profound spiritual realization and not only material happiness.

The Vedas – humanity´s oldest literature – contains the main concepts of Ayurveda and they were composed of mantras (hymns). Even today Ayurveda stresses the importance of mantra, music and sound therapies for healing at a deep level. According to Ayurveda disease is more a result of internal imbalance than a result of external pathogens. We are born with a mind-body constitution that can become imbalanced because of our lifestyle, food and seasonal changes.

The three main constitutions are:

  • Vata (air) – tall & thin, nervous & sensitive, enthusiastic and creative.
  • Pitta (fire) – average build, always hungry, easily irritated, intelligent and a natural leader.
  • Kapha (water) – robust and strong, low metabolism, soft skin, easily attached both to people and possessions.

Ayurveda means that most problems in the body are caused by Ama (accumulated waste products) which restrain the function of the organs and leads to illness.

This is why Pancha-Karma (a detox treatment) is one of the most common ordination at Ayurvedic hospitals. There you will receive massage with medicated herbal oils, medicated herbal steam bath, medicated herbal enemas, nasal medication with herbal oils and if needed therapeutic vomiting and bloodletting.

But in addition you will have food according to your doshas imbalance – the food will be your medicine. What is good for one person might be poisonous for another. This is where the herbs & spices come in to further aid balancing of your constitution so that the body can concentrate on healing itself as it was meant.

I use the Ayurvedic medicated oils and I always do my best to advice you on how to best balance your constitution with food, herbs and spices.

This patient who suffered from both diabetes and rheumatism was treated with these herbs internally and externally and got better in five days!

“That person who always eats wholesome food, enjoys a regular lifestyle, remains unattached to the objects of the senses, gives and forgives, loves the truth, and serves others, is without disease.”
